Safety & use guide
Most brands hide this page. We put it in the main menu, because a product that goes in your ear deserves an honest one.
First, what this is and is not
Siliconear is a personal comfort accessory. It is not a medical device, it is not a hearing aid, and it is not a treatment for any condition. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you have a medical concern about your ears or your head, see a doctor rather than buying a gadget.
Choosing your tip size
Three silicone tips come in the box: small, medium and large. Start with the medium. The right tip rests comfortably at the entrance of the ear canal and stays put without being pushed in. If it feels tight, or you have to force it, go one size down.
Ear canals are rarely the same size on both sides, so it is normal to use a different tip for each ear.
How to use it
- Fit a clean, dry tip onto the device.
- Place the tip gently at the entrance of the ear canal. Never push it deep into the ear.
- Press the device slowly and release.
- Use it for short sessions. If nothing changes after a few gentle presses, stop — pressing harder or longer is not the answer.
Do not use it if
- You have an ear infection, or any pain, discharge or bleeding from the ear.
- You have a perforated eardrum, or you do not know whether you do.
- You have ear tubes (grommets).
- You have had ear surgery, unless your doctor has told you it is fine.
- You have a cochlear implant or any implanted ear device.
- You have sudden hearing loss, severe dizziness or ringing that is new to you — see a doctor first.
Stop using it and speak to a doctor if
You feel pain during or after use; your hearing changes; you notice discharge, bleeding or persistent ringing; or the pressure feeling gets worse rather than better.
Children
Keep the device and the tips away from children under 3 — the tips are a choking hazard. Older children should only use it with an adult present, and never on their own.
Cleaning
- Rinse the silicone tips in warm water with a drop of mild soap after use.
- Let them air-dry completely before putting them back on the device. A damp tip is the one thing you do not want in your ear.
- Wipe the body of the device with a slightly damp cloth. Do not submerge it.
- No alcohol, no bleach, no boiling water, no dishwasher — all of them degrade silicone and make it sticky or brittle.
Sharing it
The device can be shared within a household, but each person should have their own tip and it should be washed and dried between users. Do not share tips.
When to replace the tips
Replace a tip if it tears, hardens, discolours or stops holding its shape. Silicone that has gone stiff no longer seals gently and is more likely to be uncomfortable.
Storage
Keep it dry, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. A glovebox in summer is the fastest way to ruin silicone.
